Last winter I saw this scene and instantly I knew that I have to paint it. In the middle of clearcut was old dead spruce. On the top there was tree Raven fledlings. Each had their own branc and they could see the wordl over siblings back. Finally now I started to work with this painting idea that has been ready already for an year.
Now painting is almost finished. Usually I have many nearly finished paintings that I look time to time. When I see something that has to be chanced I will do it.
These paintings have been done for illustration purposes. Crested Tits sometimes search for deer keds during winters from places were Elks have been resting.

Jackdaw was a local rarity in my chidhood. They arrived to Parikkala in late 1990 and now there is few tens of pairs breeding. Neighbours snowy Lindens are one of their favourite spots.
I did not like the righter most bird so I erased it with glass fiber brush.
Now 2/3 or the painting work is done. There is still lots of work in birds, snow and branches.

Middle-spotted Woodpecker was seen in Finland for first time year 2010. It was found by youg birder in Asikkala Vääksy. Becourse woodpecker are one of my favourite bird groups I decided to make a painting of this bird.
Here is couple of quick composition schetces I made before starting.
I decided to make a painting where the bird is small. This bird individual liked huge larix trees that surround Vääksy chanel.
