Birds 2012 exhibition

Birds 2012 exhibition is in Gallery Karaija. Exhibition openings are always inspiring. It is nice to see fellow artists and their new works. Artists had worked hard and this exhibition has now good selection of bird paintings, sculptures and graphic works.

Many of the art works found new home right away when collectors were increasing their collections.

Exhibition is open 05.08.2012 – 26.08.2012 in Gallery Karaija Inkoo. Artists: Hanna Aalto, Tom Björklund, Risto Lammin-Soila, Johannes Nevala, Esko Railo, Pekka Saikko, Dick Forsman ja Metti Pyykkö.

Tawny Owls usually sleep and roost during daytime. They will move if they have to search more safe roosting place. This owl knows that intruder has seen it.

Tengmalm’s Owl

Tengmalm’s Owl is second smalles owl breeding in Finland. Their feather and dow layer is very thick and fluffy. They will survive freezing conditions during winters in Taiga.

Barn Swallows breeding outside my studio

There is Barn Swallow family just opposite of my studios door. We had very rainy wetter this week and I started to get worried when parents clearly struckled to find enough food. Now rains are gone and juveniles are growing fast! I have always liked Barn Swallows and they have been subjeckt in many paintings.

New studio setting

During next year I have art project that includes large paintings. I do have small study in our apartment, but there is not enough space for larger canvases. Luckily I could rent small apartment from the opposite house.

The wall behind easel and the floor are covered with plastic. Airbrushing spreads small paint particles and this way I will keep walls clean. I do have a small table top easel, but for larger canvases I need this new huge easel system. Now I can paint works that are more than 2 meters wide. Height of the easel shelf can be adjusted. In the picture the shelf of the other part is sill not in its place. Small table with wheels on it will be useful when painting larger works. There is enough space for several tables. Painting table is made of old kitchen cabinets and old table. Big brown box is compressor that makes pressured air for airbrushes.

There are several large wardrobes where I can keep canvases, papers and other stuff. Lights are all daylight fluorescents that provide good light that shows true colours.

Book shelf provides books to read while waiting for painting to dry or when searching inspiration. This apartment also has a large balcony where I can read or scetch new paintings.

Right now I am working with Finnish Owls painting series. I will paint all ten species that breed here. These paintings are half way done. Backgrounds and light and shadows are still missing.
