Sewing aviator hat

I dint have warm hat for winter so I decided to sew one. First I measured all possible measurements that I thought would be needed for making a hat. When I got all measurements I calculated needed shapes and their sizes. After some math I made aviator hat pattern out of thigh paper.

Fabrics were remnants from previous projects. It’s great to be able to use them to something proper. Front and ear flaps are lined with at least 30 years old Coyote fur that I got from old jacket hood trimming.

Only new part in this hat is embroidered badge from Svalbard. So this was successful up cycling project. I hate seeing good materials or things thrown to rubbish.

Fur in the coat is sustainable wild Coyote.

Hand craft fair in Tampere

There were already traditional hand craft fair in Tampere. This time I had long list of thing I needed to buy. Unfortunately I could not find seller for all things I needed.

Tampereen messut

I bought lamb skin kloves for cold walks to work. I also needed new wallet and got one made of Elk hide. I almost bought full rain deer hide, but I could resist it and I just got this smaller piece. Tanning mimics traditional tanning seen in Saami hand tanned sisna-leather. Swedish sellers had rock crystal bals that I had searched long time. I will make my own version of Birka pendants. I bought white textile paint and got lots of information in wennströms stand. For silver works I bought silver sheet, wire and solder and some tools too. One seller was selling antique trimmings and braids and I bought 5 m of blue braiding.

Crab surprice

I was cleaning our paludarium and when i took some wooden branches out i found this running on floor! I had no idea that there could be vampire crab youngs so soon. I could not see any egs or youngs when female arrived. All together I managed to find 3 youngs but since paludarium has hundreds of hiding places there might be more of them. I was expecting to see youngs after few months, not after few weeks.

Vampire crabs

Ourpaludarium is home now for four vampire crabs (Geosesarma). These South East Asian grabs are well suitable for planted terrariums and paludariums. They are very light and small. Carapax is size of thumb nail and feet distance is maybe 4-5cm. They eat insects and dead small animals. With their 8 legs they climb easily up and down paludariums artificial rock background.

These animals came here by courier post from Germany. After four days journey all of them were alive. So far at least 2 of them have survived for sure, but there is so many small holes and spaces in our paludarium that there could live lots of these small grabs. Colour are not fully developed yet. Feet will get deep purple colour.

Vampyyritaskurapu
